Churches of Jamaica
February 9, 2012There is a saying in Jamaica that there is a church on every street corner. If you take a drive around the country you will come to believe that too. Jamaicans are a very religious people and Jamaica is known as one of the most tolerant countries when it comes to the practicing of religions. Last October (2011) along with my cousin we took that drive over four days, to photograph the many historic and beautifully architectured churches on the island.
In this photo mock-up are the St Ann’s Bay Anglican Church (top & bottom left); St. Ann’s Bay Catholic “Our Lady of the Perpetual Help” Church (top right) and the Annotto Bay Baptist Church (bottom right). The Annoto Bay Baptist Church was built in 1894 and have withstood multiple hurricanes over the last century. During the next few months you will be hearing more about this photo project and our plans to publish a series of books on “The Churches of Jamaica”. They will be based on our four days exploring the rich culture of Jamaica.

February 9, 2012Rochester, New York
February 9, 2012The colors that are seen in the High Falls District in Rochester, New York are a photographer’s dream. Friday, January 13, 2012, not a flake of snow to be seen and beautiful, abundant sunshine everywhere.
A day in the life…..
February 7, 2012Boys taking a break from playing football (soccer) in an open banana patch. This is in rural Jamaica and any open space is just as good for a few kicks. As you may notice the ball in the lower right hand corner is the color of the ground. This is an area of the island where bauxite mineral is mined and the dirt has a bright reddish color.
